Shipston-on-Stour is a town on the River Stour neighbouring Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire. It was once an important sheep market, the town's name being derived from the Old English term "sheep wash market". Shipston is scenically situated in the northern region of the Cotswolds, very conveniently between the popular tourist destinations of Stratford-upon-Avon and Oxford, which once made it a key staging place for travellers. A number of the former coaching inns are still present on the High Street.
Just a few examples of the many attractions of the local area include: Coughton Court, Hatton Farm Village at Hatton Country World, Shakespeare's birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon, the Mediaeval Doom Painting in Coventry, Kenilworth Castle & Elizabethan Garden, and a number of Blue Badge guided tours.
