In the county of South Yorkshire is the well known city Sheffield. Home to steel production since the 19th century and here in the 21st century, extensive redevelopment. Surrounded by picturesque South Yorkshire countryside, villages and towns, much of the City of Sheffield is built on hillsides with views either into the city centre or out onto the countryside.
Entertainment features throughout the year in this city and there is plenty to going on. With two large theatres, the Lyceum Theatre and the Crucible Theatre, as well as the smaller Studio Theatre, Sheffield offers the largest theatre complex outside London. Major art galleries, over 1000 listed buildings, the Peace Gardens, Heeley City Farm, excellent eateries and a fabulous choice of nightlife complete the picture of a great city to visit.
Sheffield is reputed to have over two million trees and much of the city is designated as green space. The River Sheaf runs through Sheffield and is responsible for its name; but it is forever, ‘steel’ that this city will be synonymous with. Many innovations were developed here, including crucible and stainless steel.
