The town of Sevenoaks is a commuter town in the county of Kent that is surrounded by the green belt; protecting the beautiful surrounding countryside of rolling hills and villages. Sevenoaks as a name, comes from the Saxon word "Seouenaca"; the name given to a small chapel near seven oak trees in Knole Park around 800 AD. The 1,000 acre Knole Park has several million trees as well as deer and at its heart is Knole House; home of the Earls of Dorset since they received it from Queen Elizabeth I in 1577.
Set amidst dense woodlands and surrounding Kent countryside, Sevenoaks offers plenty of outdoor activities and attractions and is popular with walkers. In town, there is a good variety of shopping, restaurants offering a choice of international cuisine, historical buildings and sites. The architecture of Sevenoaks comes from a host of influences and it is here that you will find one of the oldest cricket grounds in the country, the Vine Cricket Ground.
