Seascale

Seascale is an attractive village beach-resort in Cumbria, on the North-West coast of England. The area is thought to be one of numerous seafaring settlements established by the Vikings in approximately 1000 AD, although the coast of the Irish Sea is known to have been inhabited since the end of the last Ice Age, when the coastline developed in place of what had been a large inland lake before sea levels rose.

Numerous Roman forts, watchtowers and defensive walls, coupled with the famous Hadrian's Wall, later protected the Roman, and later the Anglo-Saxon, lands of Cumbria from invasion by the early Scots. Some of the later stone fortifications and early earthworks can still be seen, as can several reconstructions of the wooden Roman watchtowers.

Seascale itself has remained relatively small, though prosperous — even with the addition of convenient road and rail links to the various silver and lead mines of the area. These convenient transport links have allowed Seascale to thrive very pleasantly as a commuter town and traditional tourist destination. With close proximity to the wealth of attractions and sites of interest in the local area, as well as to the Lake District National Park, this is certainly the perfect place to find some well-needed rest and relaxation.
