Seaham, formerly known as Seaham Harbour, is a small coastal town in County Durham, near Sunderland and Durham. Its small parish church features a late 7th century Anglo-Saxon nave and is thought to be one of the 20 oldest surviving churches in the UK. The coastline features several miles of golden sandy beaches, the majority of which has been designated as a "heritage coast".
This is a location that provides easy access to all of the sites and attractions of the North-East, from a very pretty vantage point by the sea. The local area offers good retail prospects and various entertainment venues, along with a choice of holiday accommodation to suit most requirements, including Seaham Hall, which is now a luxury hotel and spa. Seaham's new retail complex is named Byron Place in homage to the great literary figure who lived in the town for a short period, where he wrote and completed the work "Hebrew Melodies".
Overall, Seaham offers a very pleasant place from which to explore an historic and beautiful region of Northern England. Well-known attractions of the area include Auckland Castle, Barnard Castle and the Bowes Museum, Durham Cathedral and Castle (a World Heritage Site), the Durham Dales, the High Force and Low Force waterfalls of the River Tees, and Raby Castle.
