Scarborough

Over the past 360 years Scarborough has grown to become one of Britain's best loved holiday resorts. With the beautiful bays, friendly people and an abundance of activities; it is clear to see why it has earned this enviable reputation. Scarborough's castle both dominates and decorates the harbour area, with its clean beaches and the elegance of the Victorian Esplanade.

Scarborough is divided into two bays with the castle ruins on the headland separating the two - North Bay and South Bay. The North Bay has holiday chalets and fun parks, with attractions like the Sea Life Centre, Atlantis Water Park, Kinderland and Indoor and Outdoor swimming pools. The South Bay is where the Harbour and commercial premises are located alongside the cafes, restaurants, amusement arcades and shops.

Scarborough also boasts some incredible natural scenery and superb parks and gardens; a stroll along cliff tops or boating on the lakes or the sea are lovely ways to spend some of your holiday here. Entertainment is always available in abundance, with merry-go-rounds on the beach, donkey rides and Punch and Judy shows for small children and even a tour of the film sets of the thriller movies at Terror Tower. For adults too there are places of interest to explore, superb dining choices, excellent shopping and great shows and entertainers.

All the family can enjoy ten-pin bowling at the Olympia, a trip on the Coronia or Regal Lady pleasure cruisers, a visit to Luna Park funfair or The Futurist Theatre which has a variety of shows throughout the summer to suit all ages and tastes as well as cinema screenings.

At the end of the bay, just a short walk across the impressive Spa Bridge, is the famous Scarborough Spa Complex with its theatre, conference rooms, and black and white paved Sun Court. Then there is the dramatic Scarborough Castle - the infamous Richard III was said to have slept here and if you listen you may even hear echoes of the past. Peasholm Park is very popular, with a bandstand area, boating on the lake, pitch and putt and regular events such as naval warfare and water-ski shows.

For shopping, the Brunswick Shopping Centre, Scarborough's indoor shopping centre offers a wide choice of shops The town also boasts an indoor market, and besides the shops in the main Market Hall there are many tucked away underneath. Take a stroll from here along Eastborough and discover the unique and interesting antique shops, designer teddy bears, fishing tackle, jewellery, gifts and all manner of goods and items to buy.
