Sawtry

Sawtry is a village in the historic county of Cambridgeshire, in England, located to the west of the Fens, and halfway between the city of Peterborough and the town of Huntingdon. The village is one of a large knot of relatively rural villages including Folksworth, Alconbury, Holme, Yaxley, and Stilton. This is a largely commuting area, with good proximity to Stansted Airport and Luton Airport, and Cambridge. There are several traditional pubs in the village, and the surrounding area, which is popular among walkers.

The Cistercian Abbey of St Mary was founded in 1147 by the niece of William the Conqueror, and traces of the structure still remain, although it was left to ruin after the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the reign of King Henry VIII.

Popular attractions in the area include Linton Zoo, Peterborough Cathedral, Ramsey Abbey, the University of Cambridge Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, the Nene Valley Railway, and the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, to name only a few.
