Sawbridgeworth is a small town in the English county of Hertfordshire, on the River Stort, neighbouring Bishop's Stortford, Hertford and Epping. A large portion of the town centre is a designated conservation area, featuring many buildings dating from the Tudor, Stuart, and Georgian periods, along with a good range of independent shops, traditional pubs, tea rooms, and restaurants. In the 10th century, Sawbridgeworth was the richest village community in the country, having grown to prosperity from the fully-developed farmland around it. By the medieval period, several important families had estates here. Much of the town centre is now a conservation area; many of the buildings date from the Tudor, Stuart, and Georgian periods.
It is a popular location for tourists due to the historic nature of the town, and attractions that include summer river cruises, the Forge Museum, Hatfield Forest National Nature Reserve, Rye Meads Nature Reserve, Mountfitchet Castle Experience, Paradise Wildlife Park and Celtic Harmony Camp, to name only a handful.
