Sandy

Sandy is a small market town on the River Ivel, in Bedfordshire, England. It is located conveniently between Cambridge and Bedford, near London. The town is the the headquarters of the RSPB, and gets its name from the hill range known as the Sand Hills, which dominate the area.

Sandy is thought to have been an important trading centre and staging post of the Romans due to its key position. Sandy Hills, also known as "The Lookout" features an ancient hill fort.

May 2006, however, an archaeological dig in the town produced evidence that the area may already have been inhabited more than 250 years ago.

Just a few of the popular attractions of the region are: Woburn Abbey and Safari Park, Wrest Park, Houghton House, and Bromham Mill and Gallery. The town also features The Shuttleworth Collection — an aeronautical and automotive museum.
