The town of Saltcoats in Ayrshire, Scotland is in a beautiful area and grew and developed around its earliest industry, salt harvesting. This busy town did not suffer for long after the demise of the salt business in the early 20th century, as Saltcoats soon became a popular holiday destination; rebuilding an old bathing pond that became the largest tidal pool of its time in Scotland. Along with the towns of Ardrossan and Stevenston, Saltcoats is one of a group called 'Three Towns'.
Saltcoats offers plenty for visitors to see, do and enjoy with ample amenities, historic sites and attractions in the area. With a lovely sandy beach and stunning views out over the water, Saltcoats still attracts holiday makers and day visitors today as it did in its past. Outdoor enthusiasts, those with an interest in history and nature lovers are amongst the most numerous visitors because of the wealth of history and natural beauty here. The area is also popular with cyclists as it is on the Sustrans cycle path.
