Sale is an ancient town in Greater Manchester, England, neighbouring Stretford, Altrincham, and Manchester.
The town is surrounded by fertile fields and meadows that once made Sale a prosperous agricultural settlement. A number of archaeological discoveries have been made around the town that are suggestive of Stone Age, Roman, and Anglo-Saxon activity. The subsequent arrival of the Bridgewater Canal, and later the railway, stimulated the growth of Sale as a commuter town for the Manchester area. Subsequently, the major industries of the town are in the service and retail sectors.
The town features Sale Water Park, with its artificial lake popularly used for water-sports activities; and the Waterside Arts Centre.
