Roslin

The village of Roslin in Midlothian, Scotland is said to have been founded in 203 by Asterius, from the Pict; a confederation of Celtic tribes who lived in the region before the Roman conquest of Britain. The history of Roslin is long and often bloody and it was here in 1303 that a battle of the First War of Scottish Independence was fought. The town is well known for its chapel that dates from 1446. The Rosslyn chapel became a major feature in author Dan Brown's novel The Da Vinci Code; attracting visitors who want to explore the story. The chapel is elaborately carved and has a long association with the legend of the Grail and the Knights Templars. Long before tourism, Roslin grew and developed as a result of coal mining that thrived here between the 12th and 20th centuries.

Roslin is growing well used to the influx of visitors and offers ample amenities and attractions and is also within easy reach of other towns offering additional choices for dining, shopping and leisure. This area is rich with historic sites, stunning architecture and places of interest that include the chapel, the castle and even older sites. The Rosslyn Chapel overlooks the scenic Roslin Glen country park, as does Roslin Castle; a partially ruined castle that lays just a few hundred metres from the famous chapel and can be reached via a high bridge.
