Robertsbridge

The large rural village of Robertsbridge is in the county of East Sussex, with the River Rother gently passing through and within close proximity of the coast. Roberstbridge came to be when the Cistercian monks from Boxley arrived and founded a small chapel here; by 1176 a charter was granted to the Abbey of Robertsbridge. The first mention of Robertsbridge appears in the abbey records and on the abbey seal of the 13th century around the time that a market charter was also granted. The town prospered and this is reflected in the many fine timber framed houses that date from the 14th through 17th centuries. By 1840, Robertsbridge proudly opened one of the first Post Offices in England and in 1841 Salehurst Primary School opened its doors in Northbridge Street.

In a picturesque rural location, Robertsbridge has plenty of shops, eateries, pubs, amenities and a thriving local community that is proud of its exceptional schools. Visitors wishing to explore the vast countryside, visitor attractions, historic sites and activities offered in the surrounding area will also find Robertsbridge the perfect destination.
