Roadhead is a large village in the north of the historic tourist region of Cumbria, in Northern England, close to the Scottish Border. It is within the civil parish of Bewcastle, which includes the neighbouring settlements of Blackpool Gate, Roadhead, Shopford, Roughsike and The Flatt, among many others.
The Scottish Border extends across the north of the village, which is situated close to the Solway Firth Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is also convenient for journeys into the Lake District National Park, as well as to the attractions and nightlife of the neighbouring county town of Carlisle.
Bewcastle Castle and Askerton Castle are two of the major historic attractions of the local area, along with the hexagonal Roman fort of Fanum Cocidi. The village churchyard features the famous 7th Century Bewcastle Cross, with oldest sundial in Britain.
