Rishton

Rishton is a small town in Lancashire, in England, just to the west of Clayton-le-Moors, neighbouring Blackburn. The town's name derives from the Anglo Saxon phrase "village amid the rushes". It is situated in an area of low moorland, which rises to around 250 feet above sea level. Nearby Norden Brook flows into the River Hyndburn to the east of the town. It was here that calico cloth was first woven on an industrial scale, during the heyday of the industrial north. The town's neighbour Clayton, is the half way point of the Leeds and Liverpool canal. The town is a very popular visiting place for those looking for some traditional countryside relaxation, with a number of excellent walking routes and fishing sites in the area.
