The market town of Ringwood in the county of Hampshire lies at a crossing point on the River Avon; in a picturesque area that is the Western Gateway to the beautiful New Forest. The Wednesday market here is the continuation of a market that started in 1226. Held in the traditional market place, the market is as vibrant and important as it always has been for the trade of local produce.
Ringwood is a town unspoilt by time that combines modern amenities and shops with independent traders, historic buildings and a good choice of restaurants, pubs and eateries. Fans of the BBC television series ‘The Brittas Empire’ may recognise the local leisure centre as the setting for the swimming pool, sports hall and exterior scenes that were filmed at Ringwood Health and Leisure Centre, at the time known as Ringwood Recreation Centre. This lovely area has many walks, sites of interest and visitor attractions, including the Ringwood Town and Country Experience offering exhibitions, a full-size railway station, olde shops, vintage cars and motorcycles as well as tearooms and a calendar of events and entertainment throughout the year.
