Rhosymedre

The village of Rhosymedre in Wrexham, Wales is one of the villages that form the community of Cefn. This cluster of settlements is on the slopes of the scenic Dee Valley through which the River Dee journeys from Wales to England; rising in Snowdonia and flowing east, marking the border with England before heading out to sea. The community of Cefn includes rural areas to the north, on the slopes of Ruabon Mountain. The history of the area is long and much of the growth built around the working of coal, clay and iron during the industrial age.

Rhosymedre is a small village surrounded by beautiful scenery and breathtaking views across the Dee Valley. With some amenities, the village is in easy reach of larger villages that offer broader choices for amenities, dining and leisure. The Anglican church here in Rhosymedre was consecrated in 1837 and dedicated to St John the Evangelist; a former vicar who was at the church from 1843-1885, John David Edwards composed the famous hymn tune, Rhosymedre. The hymn was used by Ralph Vaughan Williams as the basis of the second movement of his organ composition "Three Preludes on Welsh Hymn Tunes".
