The town of Redruth in the scenic county of Cornwall existed around the 12th century and went on to become a mining town; with the peak of the predominantly copper ore industry occurring during the 18th century. Copper ore was an essential metal in the Industrial Revolution and Redruth was surrounded by it, soon becoming one of the largest and richest mining areas in the country. The Mining Exchange was built here in 1880 as a place for trading mineral stock and the town witnessed development and population growth along with new buildings and prosperity. By the start of the 20th century, Redruth had a commemorative park, Victoria Park and the entire town was a shadow of its former arrangement.
Redruth offers visitors ample amenities and lots of shops along with a good choice of restaurants, pubs and a host of events taking place throughout the summer. An excellent way to discover all that the town offers is by taking the Redruth Town Trail; a walk through the town featuring different historical, cultural and other places of interest.
