Redhill

Redhill is a town in Surrey, England, situated within the London commuter belt and adjoining the neighbouring town of Reigate. Redhill was founded in 1818 with the construction of a road through the area where the settlement developed. The town later became an important rail junction, and still is today, providing fast and convenient links to the English capital for commuters and tourists alike. It is best known as the town where Alfred Nobel first demonstrated dynamite in 1867. The famous amateur astronomer, Richard Carrington, also lived in Redhill, and in 1859 made observations that supported the existence of the Sun's solar flares.

The town offers excellent shopping with a range of high street, and privately owned, shops and boutiques. A market is held on the Thursday and Saturday of each week, with the occasional French market, too. There are also a number of entertainment venues, nightclubs, pubs, and restaurants, along with a good selection of quality holiday accommodation to choose from. The town's Gatton Park, is a large estate that was once owned by the Colman family (of Colman's mustard), which is open to the public.
