Ravenglass

The coastal hamlet and natural harbour of Ravenglass is in the picturesque county of Cumbria falls within the Lake District National Park and once served as an important naval base for the Romans. The three rivers that meet here, the Esk, Mite and Irt, have contributed to the industry and economy of this area; with iron ore, granite and copper ore brought to the estuary by narrow gauge railway from mines near Boot. The old line has been preserved as the 'Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway' and attracts visitors to enjoy this historic journey.

Ravenglass attracts visitors throughout the year who come to enjoy the beautiful location with its coastal and countryside diversity and abundance of flora, fauna and wildlife as well as the excellent visitor attractions, historic and cultural sites. Ample shops, amenities, pubs and eateries are located in and around the village and other towns in the vicinity. One of the major attractions here is nearby Muncaster Castle with its famous gardens and World Owl Centre. A privately owned castle it is built on foundations dating to the Roman era and is currently owned by the Pennington family, who have lived at Muncaster for over 800 years.
