The town of Rainham is one of the Medway Towns in the county of Kent that grew rapidly from a small settlement until in 1858, with the arrival of the railways, it was on the map and starting to thrive. The town is located on the River Medway with roads that follow the ancient Watling Street; built by the Romans to link London and Canterbury. This close proximity to London has continued to affect the character of the town that is home to many commuters.
Rainham has good amenities, a shopping area, choice of eateries and pubs as well as nearby cycle paths, lovely walks, golf courses, cultural attractions, historic sites and several parks and open spaces, including Berengrave Local Nature Reserve and the Riverside Country Park, on the river Medway where you will find the outcrop of Horrid Hill. The first ever oast house theatre is here and the Rainham Theatrical Society perform regularly throughout the year.
