The town of Radstock in Somerset is in an area renowned for its geological diversity and has long relied on mining as a key industry. With much of the rock formation in the area dating from the Jurassic period, geologists, walkers and enthusiasts are frequent visitors. Radstock lies on the River Somer that passes through the picturesque Kilmersdon Valley before joining the Cam Brook at Midford. Although the location of Radstock has been settled since at least the Iron Age, the town primarily developed in order to house the miners who worked for the local pit.
Radstock offers ample amenities and shops as well as some unique architecture reflecting its mining and Victorian heritage. The Grade II listed former market hall on Waterloo Road now houses the fascinating Radstock Museum; giving visitors an insight into many aspects of local life throughout the town’s history. The range of exhibits also reveals much about local geology and the now disused Somerset coalfield. With shops, a forge and carpenter's shop, the Radstock Museum is a popular attraction.
