Portsmouth

The city of Portsmouth in the county of Hampshire has long been an important naval port and is home to the world's oldest dry dock that is still in use. The maritime heritage is evident in the architecture and sites of this city that famous ships call home; the HMS Warrior and Lord Nelson's flagship, the HMS Victory are docked here. The Royal Navy and Royal Marine Commandos are based here and the port is also a busy commercial ferryport, taking freight and passengers across to and from European destinations. One of the most striking landmarks in the city of Portsmouth is the Spinnaker Tower, located in the redeveloped area of the former HMS Vernon.

Portsmouth is a busy cosmopolitan city with all the amenities, fabulous shopping, restaurants offering world cuisines, bars and pubs you would expect as well as a wealth of historic buildings, visitor and cultural attractions. For a great insight into the story of this historic maritime city, Portsmouth's D-Day museum with the ‘Overlord embroidery’, the Royal Naval Museum and the many famous ships including the remains of Henry VIII’s Mary Rose and the HMS Victory are excellent places to visit.
