Porthcawl is a town and holiday resort in South Wale, located 25 miles west of the capital city, Cardiff. It is situated on a limestone headland, or peninsula, overlooking the Bristol Channel.
The town is a popular holiday destination due to its sandy bays and Blue Flag beaches, the long promenade, golf courses, grand pavilion, and the Coney Beach funfair. The nearby dunes known as Kenfig Burrows, are all that remains of the town and castle of Kenfig, which was overwhelmed by the sand in the late 14th century.
The town's tourist-orientated Trecco Bay also features a static caravan park, which provides excellent transport links to the sites and attractions of the wider Glamorgan area.
