Porth is a predominantly English-speaking Welsh town in the county of Rhondda Cynon Taf, in Glamorgan. It is situated prettily situated in the Rhondda Valley, which is regarded as the gateway to the Rhondda Fawr and Rhondda Fach valleys, as they converge near to the town. The town is founded on a rich coal mining heritage, which is celebrated at the Rhondda Heritage Park in Trehafod.
The Rhonda Valley offers a number of fascinating attractions for visitors, particularly those of historical interest, such as the prehistoric sites near Tonypandy, the most notable being the Iron Age burial ground of Mynydd y Gelli, on the mountain of the same name. The Iron Age settlement of Hen Dre'r Gelli can also be seen on the same mountain, with a number of Bronze Age cairns, close by.
With a large number of towns, villages and historic cities and national parks within easy reach, Porth offers an excellent vantage point from which to explore the beauty of South Wales.
