Pooley Bridge is a pretty Lake District village situated at the northern end of Ullswater lake — the second largest and reputedly the most beautiful lake of the Lake District National Park, in England. The area is an extremely popular tourist destination in general but is a particular favourite of hikers, due to the high concentration of peaks, or "fells", in the region that follow the route of Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk.
The village offers a good choice of quality holiday accommodation including various camp sites, youth hostels, and a range of hotels and Bed & Breakfasts, while the Ullswater Steamers provide a regular ferry service from the Pooley Bridge pier, linking the village to Glenridding at the southern end of the lake, and to Howtown in its midsection.
Just a few of the many notable attractions near Pooley Bridge include (but are by no means limited to): Grizedale Forest, with its adventure course of rope bridges and 60ft zip slides; Peter Rabbit and Friends; Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum; the Mirehouse Historic House and Gardens, which offers various activities for all the family; the Silverband Falconry; and the Bond Museum, dedicated to all things James Bond.
