Pontypridd is a large market town of Rhondda Cynon Taf, in the Welsh County of Glamorgan. Birthplace of the Welsh National Anthem, the history of Pontypridd is closely tied to the coal and iron industries that took it from a few farmsteads to a major town. The famous local landmark of the ‘Old Bridge’ was the longest single-span stone arch bridge in the world when it was constructed across the River Taff in 1756. Pontypridd lies where the River Rhondda flows into the Taff at the Ynysangharad War Memorial Park.
Pontypridd is rich in cultural heritage and continues to nurture this tradition today with live music venues such as the Muni Arts Centre attracting audiences from far and wide. The Ynysangharad War Memorial Park has become one of the country’s top concert venues at events held throughout the year that attract some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Welsh artists The Lost Prophets and Sir Tom Jones.
