Plockton

The village of Plockton is a National Trust Conservation Village in the beautiful Ross and Cromarty area of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. This is a region of breathtaking contrasts and spectacular landscapes as well as some of the oldest rock formations in Europe that date from the Cambrian and Precambrian age. Plockton is sheltered and experiences a mild climate that even sees the growth of palm-like cabbage trees that are unusual amidst the untamed land of sea and loch, mountain and glen.  Fishing and crofting have been the key industries here for as long as there has been settlement and today, tourism too plays a major part in the local economy. Outdoor enthusiasts, bird-watchers, artists and photographers are drawn to Plockton and the surrounding area.

As a National Trust Conservation Village, Plockton has carefully preserved its rich heritage and enchants visitors with its stunning setting on the shores of Loch Carron. The village buildings date primarily from the 18th and 19th centuries when Plockton was a planned community. The village has become a celebrity in its own right as a result of the TV series Hamish Macbeth, starring Robert Carlyle that was filmed here. Parts of movie The Wicker Man and the Inspector Alleyn Mysteries TV series were also filmed here. Plockton offers ample amenities, eateries and attractions to draw visitors back year after year.
