The village of Pevensey in the pretty county of East Sussex, England lies just inland from Pevensey Bay and is home to Pevensey Castle. This medieval castle is on the site of a former Roman fort and the place where William the Conqueror came, after landing at Pevensey Bay in September 1066. After the conquest, a formidable stone castle was built by the Normans on the foundations and has survived well to this day.
Further work on the castle occurred in 1588 and again in 1940. The Pevensey Museum in the Old Courthouse offers the visitor an opportunity to discover more about the rich history of Pevensey.
Pevensey attracts visitors who come to enjoy this small seaside resort with ample attractions, shops, eateries and pubs as well as visitors who come to explore ‘1066 Country’. Pevensey is an ideal base from which to discover this historic area with a wealth of visitor and cultural attractions as well as historic sites and an abundance of beautiful, natural landscapes, wildlife, flora and fauna.
