Penygroes

The large village of Penygroes in Gwynedd, Wales grew and prospered as a result of its proximity to the former slate quarrying area of Dyffryn Nantlle. The Nantlle Valley area is dotted with settlements that once served the quarrying industry during its peak of productivity in the 18th and 19th centuries. The largest quarries were Dorothea and Pen yr Orsedd that were served by the horse-drawn Nantlle Railway. Today the valley attracts visitors who come to enjoy the wonderful walks, varied wildlife habitats and wealth of natural beauty in the flora and fauna.

Penygroes has some amenities and is within easy reach of other settlements that offer additional shopping, dining and leisure choices as well as nearby visitor attractions and places of interest. The cyclepath Lôn Eifion passes through Penygroes, following the path of the old Bangor-to-Afonwen branch railway line, which was closed in 1964.
