Penryn

The town of Penryn in the scenic county of Cornwall lies on the Penryn River and was an important harbour during the medieval period, with a thriving trade in granite and tin. The architecture in the town is a mix of Tudor, Jacobean and Georgian; revealing the periods of prosperity and development. During the reign of Elizabeth I and before nearby Falmouth was settled, the Domesday Book of 1086 makes mention of the town. Export from here was worldwide with the Suez Canal, Gibraltar, Singapore and Buenos Aires the destinations for much of the granite that was used for buildings, wharves and bridges. In the UK, London Bridge and the South Bank also benefitted from the versatile qualities of this building material.

Penryn is a busy town set amidst the beautiful scenery that Cornwall is renowned for. The town has ample amenities and shops, eateries and pubs and simply stunning architecture that will delight any visitor. Penryn has been designated as an important conservation area because of its well preserved history and heritage.
