Penrhyndeudraeth

The village of Penrhyndeudraeth in Gwynedd, Wales is beautifully located between two beaches; Traeth Mawr at the estuary of the Afon Glaslyn and Traeth Bach at the estuary of the Afon Dwyryd. Close to the mouth of the Afon Dwyryd, Penrhyndeudraeth is also home to the famous vacation village of Portmeirion, best known as the filming location for the 1960s TV series, The Prisoner. Before the mid 19th century an area at the heart of the village was a large stagnant pool surrounded by swamp that was drained in 1852 by the landowner, David Williams of Deudraeth Castle.

Penrhyndeudraeth and the surrounding area is rich in history and stunning scenery with diverse landscapes offering sandy white beaches and majestic mountain peaks. There are plenty of amenities, shops, eateries and pubs to enjoy and a variety of attractions including; the Ffestiniog Railway that runs from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog, the Welsh Highland Railway that runs from Porthmadog to Pen-y-Mount and of course the iconic ‘village’ of Portmeirion, located on it's own private peninsula surrounded by mountains and one of the most popular visitor attractions in the area.
