Paisley

Paisley is a former burgh town in the west Central Lowlands of Scotland. It is located on the banks of the River Cart, and at the northern edge of the Gleniffer Braes Country Park, which features the magnificent Glen Burn Waterfall. It is one of the principal towns of Scotland, serving as the administrative capital of the Renfrewshire council area, and it forms a continuous urban area with Greater Glasgow.

The settlement is of monastic origins, thought to have been established with its first chapel in the 6th century, by the Irish monk, Saint Mirin beside a waterfall now known as the Hammils. Paisley Abbey became a favourite of the Bruce and Stewart families and was probably the place where William Wallace was educated. It was the burial place of many Scottish Kings during the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries.

Paisley is best known for the production of the Paisley Shawl and for the famous fabric design, which is of Indian origin but became a popular product of the town and known by the town's name.
