The popular seaside town of Paignton is found in the attractive county of Devon in an area perfectly termed ‘the English Riviera’. From its early days as a Celtic settlement the town has grown; first into a busy little fishing village and later, with a new harbour and the coming of the railways in the mid 19th century, a thriving and prosperous town. With the railway links, the population increased and visitors discovered the delights of holidays here. It was also the coming of the railways that led to the townsfolk being referred to as ‘pudden eaters’ after thousands turned up in the hope of getting a piece of a huge pudding that had been baked to celebrate the arrival of the railway.
Visitors enjoy Paignton for its long sandy beaches, clear waters, pretty pier and wealth of seaside attractions and activities. There is wonderful shopping and a great choice of pubs and eateries here as well as historic sites, places of interest and visitor attractions. During the busy summer months, the town celebrates with a full diary of events, festivals and fairs to be enjoyed.
