Oxford

Oxford is the county town of Oxfordshire and known the world over for being the home of Oxford University. This medieval university has always contributed to the vibrant and diverse atmosphere here; with a lively cultural and leisure scene serving the area. The rivers Cherwell and Thames run through Oxford adding to its charm and bringing with them, a wealth of outdoor activities for the visitor to enjoy. Known also as ‘The City of Dreaming Spires’, a term coined by poet Matthew Arnold in reference to the harmonious architecture of Oxford's university buildings, Oxford has, for over 800 years, played host to royalty and scholars.

The architecture of Oxford demonstrates examples from every British architectural period since the arrival of the Saxons and the University itself, is the oldest university in the English-speaking world.
