Otterton

The small village of Otterton in the attractive county of Devon lies on the banks of the River Otter and is believed to have been a vast settlement under the Saxons before the arrival of the Normans. There was a port here before the river silted up and the village became primarily reliant on agriculture with farming continuing in the area today. Now though, tourists are a large part of the economy, with many visitors coming to enjoy the delights of the wonderful Otter Estuary Nature Reserve and the many pleasurable walks in the area. The Nature Reserve is also a Site of Scientific Interest due to the ecosystem that supports a diverse range of wildlife, birds, flora and fauna. From the Reserve, the well-known West Coast Path leads up to the magnificent cliffs that are part of the Jurassic Coast and abundant in prehistoric fossils.

Otterton is a picturesque village with pretty thatched roofs, brick and cob buildings and a charm that seems unchanged by time. Visitors can water mills, a charming village green and the traditional and distinctive church towering majestically over everything.
