Orpington is a suburban town in the London Borough of Bromley. It is situated in the south east of London the metropolitan area of the capital. The area is known to have been occupied since the Stone Age, as tools have been discovered at several sites in the town including Goddington Park, the Ramsden estate, Priory Gardens, and Poverest. Bronze Age pottery has also been discovered in Park Avenue. as well as an Iron Age farmstead, which was excavated in 1935. The Crofton Roman Villa, and the Roman bath-house at Fordcroft, are two sites of significant interest in the town, which attract a large number of visitors each year.
