Chipping Ongar, or Ongar, as it is best known locally, is a small market town in the Epping Forest district of the English county of Essex. It neighbours Epping, Harlow and Brentwood, within the London Commuter Belt. Ongar is one of a knot of charming and traditional small towns and villages on the outskirts of the London Commuter Belt, offering excellent transport links, and a good choice of holiday accommodation, including several caravan parks, hotels, and guest houses, along with good local shopping prospects and a varied selection of pubs and restaurants. It developed very early as an important market town, and the earthwork remains of an 11th century motte-and-bailey castle are still present and can be viewed from a footpath leading from the high street.
Popular attractions in Essex include Colchester Castle, Colchester Zoo, Waltham Abbey, Mangapps Railway Museum, Epping Forest, and Hedingham Castle, to name only a handful, along with all the sites and attractions of London, which is just a stone's throw away.
