Oldham is a large town of Greater Manchester in Northern England. It is situated on high ground in the Pennines between the rivers Irk and Medlock, and neighbouring Rochdale. It was formerly part of Lancashire and developed substantially in the Industrial Revolution as the first industrialised town, at the centre of the cotton and textile industries.
This is a popular tourist location due to its canals and the surrounding idyllic villages, settled comfortably amid the rolling Pennines landscape. There is plenty to see and do in and around the town, which has a vibrant arts scene, excellent shopping prospects and a generous number of pubs, cafés and restaurants.
Attractions in the area include the Saddleworth Museum & Art Gallery, the Portland Basin Museum, Heaton Hall, Ordsall Hall, and the Imperial War Museum North.
