Northallerton is a market town in North Yorkshire, England. It is situated in the Vale of Mowbray, at the northern end of the Vale of York. The town is the administrative centre for Hambleton and a major retail centre for the area.
Northallerton is a historically rich town, having been the site of many conflicts between the English and the Scots, the most famous being the Battle of the Standard, where 12,000 men were killed. There is also evidence of there having been a Roman signal box once on the Castle Hills, and remains can be seen in neighbouring Brompton Village of a path that ran between Hadrian's Wall and York, which was at that time the fort of Eboracum.
The North Yorkshire region as a whole is a very attractive and historical landscape of rivers, moors and ancient rural villages, which is an extremely pleasant visiting place for walkers and fishing enthusiasts, as well for that traditional English family holiday filled with fun, intrigue and adventure. York Minster, JORVIK York and the National Railway Museum are just a few of the attractions in the immediate area, with Flamingo Land Theme Park & Zoo, Eden Camp and Castle Howard, being among the many others within easy reach.
