Newton Aycliffe is an attractive and modern moorland town in County Durham, in North East England. It was founded in 1947 as a New Town. Newton Aycliffe was the first of the New Towns established in the North East. It was William Beveridge's prototype for what he called the Welfare State, as a vision of what he wanted Britain to be like after the war, without poverty, disease, unemployment, ignorance or unemployment. This was the founding of the modern British infrastructure. The location of the newtown was chosen due to its location on the moors between Aycliffe and Middridge, by a disused ordinance factory. Newton Aycliffe is now a thriving, and well-planned town, with good retail prospects, various entertainment venues, and a choice of holiday accommodation to suit most requirements, making this a very pleasant location from which to explore an historic and scenic part of Northern England.
Well-known attractions of the area include Auckland Castle, Barnard Castle and the Bowes Museum, Durham Cathedral and Castle (a World Heritage Site), the Durham Dales, the High Force and Low Force waterfalls of the River Tees, and Raby Castle.
