Newquay

The port and seaside resort of Newquay in the scenic county of Cornwall is on the dramatic north Atlantic coast, in an area renowned for its breathtaking scenery. The town has been settled since around the late Iron Age, when the early settlers would have made use of the nearby resources and iron deposits. A fishing village eventually grew here and by 1439 the local Burghers applied for funds to build a ‘New quay’. The fishing industry brought prosperity and the town became well known for its pilchards. Some fishing continues today although there are no longer pilchards in the catch. It was the coming of the railways in the 19th century that facilitated trade from inland clay mines to the harbour and brought visitors to the town.

Newquay is a picture-perfect Cornwall seaside resort with stunning views, great beaches, exceptional surfing and lots to enjoy. Newquay became the major tourist destination it is because of its nine long sandy beaches that includes the surfer’s favourite, Fistral. The town has excellent amenities, lots of shops, a great choice of restaurants, bars and traditional pubs as well as plenty of visitor and cultural attractions.
