Newport Pagnell is a modern, thriving town in the county of Buckinghamshire.
The history of this area dates back to the Iron Age and the town itself is from the Roman period. The oldest iron bridge in the world that is still in constant use, Tickford Bridge crossing over the River Ouze, was built in 1810. Located near the footbridge that runs alongside, is a plaque giving details of its history and construction of this fine piece of engineering. In 1753 drinking was a popular pleasure here and there were several large Coaching Inns along with plenty of Alehouses. The history of these premises and the local area can be further explored at Chandos Hall, Newport Pagnell’s museum.
The market continues to be a key event of the town calendar and you can enjoy the delights of the Newport Pagnell Farmers Market that is held on the third Friday of every month. Much pride is taken in the selection of fresh local produce, crafts and goods that are available. A friendly town with ample eateries, pubs, shops and amenities, Newport Pagnell is a welcoming village to visit.
