Newport is a city in Wales on the banks of the River Usk neighbouring Cardiff. It is the third most populous city in Wales, and is Bronze Age in origin, with a number of hillforts having been built by the Celts and the Romans to defend the crossing point of the Usk. Newport is best known for its Castle, which was founded by the Normans on the river bank. The castle is the seat of the Bishop of Monmouth. Westgate Square is the city's shopping high street, which offers an excellent variety of shops, modern and traditional pubs, restaurants and accommodation.
