Newnham on Severn

Newnham on Severn is a pleasant and welcoming village in west Gloucestershire, England. It enjoys an enviable location in the ancient Royal Forest of Dean, on the bank of the River Severn, neighbouring Gloucester. The village was founded by the Romans due to its location on the Severn, where they forded the river. It was developed further by the Anglo-Saxons and later the Normans, who fortified it against the Welsh. By the medieval era it was a major port. Today, it is simply a very attractive village that provides an excellent base from which to enjoy this beautiful county.

Popular attractions in the area include Gloucester Cathedral, Eastnor Castle, Hailes Abbey, and the International Centre for Birds of Prey, to name only a handful.
