Newborough

The village of Newborough in Anglesey, Wales borders the extensive sea marshes of Malldraeth and lies near the mouth of the small river Braint in an area of diverse natural beauty and wildlife habitats. There are links here to the coastal footpath and scenic rural footpaths that take walkers through and around Newborough Warren and Newborough Forest; areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty with triple Special Scientific Interest status. The village was founded by Edward I in 1294 in order to house people he had evicted from Llanfaes when he wanted to build Beaumaris Castle. By the 16th century, Newborough was a thriving town with a strong industry based on marram grass that was used in the manufacture of matting, nets and rope.

Newborough and the surrounding area offer ample amenities, shops, pubs and eateries as well as sites of interest and visitor attractions. It is the attraction of the natural kind that bring the most visitors here; with one of the largest areas of sand dunes found in the British Isles, Newborough Warren and the delights of 2,000 acres of  Newborough Forest, a woodland with a focus on forestry and conservation.
