New Malden is a town and busy shopping centre in a south-western suburb of London, situated mainly within the Royal Borough of Kingston-upon-Thames. This is a relatively new town that formed as a result of the newly laid railway line through the area during the Victorian area. As such, the town is distinctly Victorian in its architecture and general layout, with a predominance of family terraced housing in the town centre. The town gets its name from the village of Old Malden, which is located just two miles away and whose origins can be traced to the Anglo-Saxon era.
The town features a roundabout at the end of its high street known as the Fountain Roundabout because of its unusual feature, which was originally used for watering the horses of passing stage coaches. "The Fountain Public House" is situated on one of the cross road.
