Once two villages known as Little Marsden and Great Marsden, Nelson is an industrial town in the Borough of Pendle in Lancashire, England. It is situated just north of Burnley on the popular Leeds and Liverpool Canal route. During the Industrial Revolution, Nelson developed as a mill town and still retains many of the old buildings as remnants of Lancashire's industrial past. The town offers an excellent vantage point from which to explore the surrounding area, including the Ribble Valley, Forest of Bowland, Pendle, with its history of witch trials and folklore, and all the cities and resorts such as Manchester, Chester, and Blackpool.
