Musselburgh is the largest settlement in the Scottish council area of East Lothian, Scotland, on the coast of the Firth of Forth. It is located six miles to the east of Edinburgh city centre, for which it now serves largely as a commuter town and as a popular tourist base. It was settled by the Romans who a fort that would establish the line of the main eastern approach to Scotland's capital that would remain for the next two thousand years; as well as founding what would become the oldest town in Scotland. The town also has the oldest golf course in the world.
