Muir Of Ord

The village of Muir of Ord near the western boundary of the Black Isle is within the Ross and Cromarty area of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. This is an outstanding region of contrasting landscapes and spectacular scenery as well as some of the oldest rock formations in Europe that date from the Cambrian and Precambrian age. The people of this region are primarily engaged in fishing, tourism and crofting. Muir of Ord is well known to many for the Black Isle Show that is one of the largest agricultural shows in Scotland. The Black Isle Show is held every August in a showground just nearby and is a great time to plan a visit for.

Muir of Ord offers some amenities and a railway station and is within reach of further developed towns and cities offering additional choices for dining, shopping and leisure. Within the beautiful area around the village are stunning natural features and visitor attractions, including the Glen Ord Distillery. Few distilleries remain on the Black Isle and The Glen Ord Distillery is the only remaining single malt scotch whisky distillery left; producing 12-year old single malt whisky and winning awards for the best single malt at international competitions.
